Polaroid Diaries - Tracking Record

"Dear Diary - Often referred to as the "Cheese Stick" I actually really like this vividly coloured sculpture...

redeye A shaft of bright yellow interrupts the deep cobalt blue swathe of the afternoon sky...one face of the monolithic construction lies in shadow whilst the other visible facade shines defiantly in the richness of its saturated yellow...

yellowsound As ever, being close to the freeway there is the constant sound of traffic, not so much an ambience but rather a continual presence, changing from moment to moment...the high pitched hiss of speeding a car...the low, laboured groans of a truck as it flicks through its gears...the throbbing, rhythmic rumbling of a passing motorbike...

Listen to a sound bite from this location...
(*.mp3 format, 940KB)

greensmell The ever persistent wafting of exhaust fumes...a hint of moisture - I can smell the water of the nearby creek...

bluetouch Although the abrasive concrete supports, ramps and walls of the freeway bridges are now in the shade they hold the heat of the day's sun...the radiating warmth is comforting

purpletaste Maybe it's the airborne particles of water from the nearby creek mingling with fumes...maybe it's the sight of just how little water is flowing here now compared with 12 months ago...maybe it's the drought's own damacle's sword that seems to hang over us at the moment...but I'm sure I can taste impending rain...maybe it's just wishful thinking...

"Yellow and Blue"

Originally, "Yellow and Blue" was taken on Thursday, April 12, 2007 at 12:00 AM. Since then this diary snapshot has had confirmed sightings at the locations listed below. Sightings are listed in the order that they were reported...

  • Received Tuesday, May 15, 2007...(US Eastern Time)
  • Where the Snap was found:

"Very close to where I found "Doorway near Essendon Airport". Where was that you ask? Near the Essendon Rowing Club/Maribyrnong Lake. It was half-hiding on an embankment."

Finder's Diary entry and/or plans for the Snap:

"It appears to be the "cheese stick/boom gate" on CityLink which is quite the monument in our fair municipality, obviously. It is a very neat shot with great colour and simplicity. I will go for a walk later and place it on a bridge (any bridge) I come across and hopefully it meets a new admirer quickly."

  • Received Wednesday, May 16, 2007...(US Eastern Time)
  • Where the Snap was found:

"Afton St Footbridge, Tuesday May 15"

Finder's Diary entry and/or plans for the Snap:

"Hannah and I found this when we were running for footy training. I generally walk across the bridge as I'm too lazy to push 12 kg of Hannah and the pram uphill. We left the snap there for the next lucky jogger, and headed on to the playground."
