Fishing - Lorne Pier.
Sunday, September 26, 2004, 8:11 PM

Dear Diary - Using Polaroid 600/Ambient lighting…no flash - once you squeeze through the gap between the boat and the crane it's almost as if you've stepped into a whole new world. The fisher-folk are like a little microcosm all of their own…there's a sense of familiarity & community amongst them, and even though I didn't see much fish catching actually going on it didn't seem to matter all that much.

Josh & Antony 2.
Friday, September 17, 2004, 8:54 PM

Dear Diary - Using Polaroid 600/Ambient lighting…no flash - as I mentioned in "Green & Graffiti 2", I had the best evening this evening. Part of what made it so good was finally getting up the courage to ask someone "cold turkey" to be in a photo. When I saw these two guys sitting out having a "smoko", I knew straight off that I just had to get the shot…the white…the light - it struck me as one of those pictures I'd really regret missing out on. And these two guys were fantastic - up for it from the word go. They had to sit totally still for about 10 - 20 seconds because of the lighting conditions and they handled it like experts!
Notice that this is shot 2 - I've decided to keep Josh & Antony 1 for myself even though it's a bit overexposed - I love the ghostly way Josh and Antony appear to "glow" in it and, at first glance, how the brightly lit section where Antony is could almost be mistaken for a mirror.
To top it off - after the first shot noisily popped out Josh whipped out a previous Diary Snap (Tower - Essendon Airport) that he'd found after a drop I'd made earlier this week.
Sorry, Josh, there's no prize for having found it - well…you get to keep the photo if you want or you can report it and drop it off somewhere else, but no prize.
And the last thing that blew me away was that when I'd finished taking the shot, THEY thanked me - I was pleasantly surprised since I'd been the one to inconvenience them…thanks guys - much appreciated!…

Paying For Parking.
Saturday, September 11, 2004, 10:28 PM

Dear Diary - Using Polaroid 600/Ambient lighting…no flash - isn't modern technology marvelous? There's a sense of other-worldliness in the washed-out effect of the 600 film in this shot, but the reality is you've got to pay for the parking spot before you can get out and it isn't always that simple. Can you see the guy in the orange and yellow striped vest? He's the parking machine security guy and, I suppose, customer relations officer. The people with him had simply wanted to pay and get going but the machine had refused to do what it was meant to. It actually hadn't given any change (maybe that is what it's supposed to do!). Meanwhile, 15 minutes later they were still there waiting to go home or wherever it was they were off to at 10:30 at night.

Two People - Relationship.
Saturday, August 14, 2004, 4:18 PM

Dear Diary - Like the previous shot, this was snapped during a momentary hiatus in the flow of people. For this brief instance I was able to catch this couple, providing nice contrast in body language with the previous diary entry

Two People - No Relationship.
Saturday, August 14, 2004, 4:12 PM

Dear Diary - Shopping centres can present some interesting insights into human nature. Here, at HighPoint in Maribyrnong, we read the body language of 2 people who don't know each other…compare it with the next diary entry of an obvious couple

Mercy Private - Room 215.

Dear Diary - So this is what happens after a brain tumor operation - you get your own mini snorkel to play with…or…is it a new fashion statement? You know - tatts; piercings; tumor snorkel…
